Video of Submarine Emergency Main Ballast Tank Blow System Test

Test demonstrating water blow out under pressure using a hydrazine gas generator which forms part of the RESUS Rescue System for Submarines.

The emergency main ballast tank blow is a procedure used aboard a submarine that forces high pressure gas into its main ballast tanks, or flooded compartment. The pressurised gas forces ballast water from the tanks, quickly lightening the vessel so that it can rapidly rise to the surface from any depth. Discover more about RESUS.
